- Creative PnP Configuration Manager Readme File
- ==============================================
-
- This file contains important information regarding the
- installation of Creative PnP Configuration Manager (CTCM)
- and Creative PnP Configuration Utility (CTCU). Please read
- all the sections here before you proceed to install this
- configuration driver and utility set.
-
- The information here is organized into the following sections:
-
- 1. Installing CTCM and CTCU
- 2. Updating DOS drivers/applications
- 3. Configuring Your Card in Windows 95 DOS Mode
- 4. If You Have Another Configuration Manager
- 5. If You Have Legacy Cards In Your System
-
- NOTE: For more information on using CTCU or CTCM, please refer
- to the sections "Using CTCM" and "Using CTCU" in MANUAL.TXT
-
- 1. INSTALLING CTCM and CTCU
-
- To install CTCM and CTCU in DOS/Windows 3.x, you just need to
- run INSTALL at the command prompt and follow the instructions
- on the screen to complete the installation.
-
- After the CTCM installation, you may need to update your DOS
- drivers or applications. Please refer to section 2 on updating
- DOS drivers/applications.
-
- 2. UPDATING DOS DRIVERS/APPLICATIONS
-
- If you have Creative Audio drivers and Creative IDE CD-ROM
- drivers then you need to update them with newer versions to
- support CTCM, otherwise you don't need to update any of the
- files.
-
- You need to do this only after installing CTCM and CTCU.
-
- The following files need to be updated :
-
- 1. CTSB16.SYS
- 2. VIBRA16.SYS
- 3. DIAGNOSE.EXE
- 4. CT3DSE.EXE
- 5. SBIDE.SYS
-
- 2.1 Updating CTSB16.SYS or VIBRA16.SYS
-
- You need to update these files to your <C:\SOUND>\DRV
- directory. The default directory for <C:\SOUND> is either
- SB16 or VIBRA16. You can check your SOUND directory by
- doing the following steps:
-
- 1. Type SET on the command prompt
- 2. Your SOUND directory is specified as SOUND=<C:\SOUND>
-
- You need to copy these files to the <C:\SOUND>\DRV directory
-
- 2.2 Updating DIAGNOSE.EXE and CT3DSE.EXE
-
- If you have any of these files or both, then you need to
- update them with the newer version to support CTCM.
-
- These two files are located in your <C:\SOUND> directory.
- Please refer to section 2.1 on how to check your SOUND
- directory
-
- You need to copy these files to the <C:\SOUND> directory
-
- 2.3 Updating SBIDE.SYS
-
- If you have Creative CDROM driver, then you need to update
- the driver with the newer version to support CTCM
-
- This file is located in your <C:\SBCD> directory.
- The default directory for <C:\SBCD> is SBCD directory.
-
- You may have to path it to the directory where you stored
- the CDROM driver if it has been changed when you installed
- it.
-
- After copying the driver to the specified directory, you
- need to change the setting in your CONFIG.SYS as follows:
-
- DEVICE=<C:\SBCD>\SBIDE.SYS /D:MSCD001 <other parameters>
- to
- DEVICE=<C:\SBCD>\SBIDE.SYS /D:MSCD001 /N /P:1E8,11,3EE <other parameters>
-
- NOTE: Please take note of the additional switches /N.
-
-
- 3. CONFIGURING YOUR CARD IN WINDOWS 95 DOS MODE
-
- To enable your PnP card to work properly in a Windows 95 DOS Mode
- session, you need to do two things:
-
- a. First, make sure that this card is configured properly in the
- windows environment of Windows 95.
-
- b. Next, run CTCM in a Windows 95 DOS Mode session.
- CTCM will configure your card according to the settings given
- in Windows 95.
-
-
- To check whether your PnP card has been properly configured in
- Windows 95:
-
- a. Click the "My Computer" icon in Windows 95 with your right
- mouse button. A shortcut menu will appear.
-
- b. Choose the "Properties" option. The Properties dialog box
- will appear.
-
- c. Select the "Device Manager" tabbed page. A list of the
- devices in your system will appear.
-
- d. Select the right device type, e.g., "Sound, video and game
- controllers", "Modem", or "CD-ROM controllers". A list of
- all the devices in that category will appear. Your PnP card
- is not properly configured if you see a yellow "!" sign on
- the card's icon.
-
-
- To reconfigure your PnP card in Windows 95, if you see a yellow
- "!" sign on your PnP card icon:
-
- a. Click that device and check its device status to find out
- what went wrong. Solve the problem and then restart your
- computer in Windows 95 to reconfigure your card.
-
-
- 4. IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER CONFIGURATION MANAGER
-
- CTCM can work with or without another configuration manager in
- your system.
-
- However, if you already have a different configuration manager
- installed in your system, you should check your CONFIG.SYS file
- after installing CTCM. Please make sure that the statement which
- invokes CTCM is placed after the statement that calls the other
- configuration manager.
-
-
- 5. IF YOU HAVE LEGACY CARDS IN YOUR SYSTEM
-
- CTCM configures Creative PnP cards only.
-
- If you have legacy cards in your system, you need to run CTCU
- first, to inform CTCM about the hardware resources used by
- these legacy cards. After that, you can run CTCM to configure
- your Creative PnP card.
-
- Alternatively, if you do not know your legacy cards' settings,
- you can use CTCU to change the settings of your PnP card. Then
- run CTCM and test whether your card works properly. This is a
- trial-and-error method since CTCM will not be "informed" about
- the resources that have been reserved by your legacy cards. You
- may need to try different combinations of settings before you
- can configure your PnP cards successfully, without any hardware
- conflicts with existing cards.
